TERMS OF SERVICE

Terms of service.

These terms set out your rights and limits when using the CloverTerm client and the account features on this site. Downloading, installing or using CloverTerm means you accept them, together with the privacy policy.

01 · THE SERVICE

What the service is.

CloverTerm is a local-first SSH terminal and server management tool for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. It has two layers:

  1. 01Local features — terminal, SFTP, live monitoring, snippets, self-hosted sync — run on your device and work as soon as it is installed. No sign-in is required. Local features come in two parts, Free and Pro; see sections 02 and 03.
  2. 02Account features need a session. Today that means the feedback community, plus buying and restoring Pro. Not signing in changes nothing about Free features.
03 · FREE EDITION LICENSE

Free edition licence.

  1. 01The Free edition may be used in personal and commercial settings alike — including in-house operations and managing servers for clients — with no limit on devices, seats, number of hosts or purpose, and no registration or sign-in.
  2. 02Free features stay free permanently: a free feature present in the first release will never become paid.
  3. 03The only restrictions: do not decompile or reverse-engineer the client, and do not redistribute the installers (including repackaging modified builds). Get installers only from this website or official app stores; see the download page.
04 · ACCOUNT & DEVICES

Your account and devices.

  1. 01Registration needs only an email address. Keep it reachable, and you are responsible for activity under the account.
  2. 02After signing in, every device holding a session appears in your device list; you can sign any of them out remotely from account settings.
  3. 03If a device is lost or a session may be compromised, remove that device immediately — and delete the account if needed.
  4. 04You can delete your account at any time. Email, device list and feedback content are then cleared per the privacy policy.
05 · SELF-HOSTED SYNC

Where self-hosted sync ends.

  1. 01The sync backend is your own private GitHub or Gitee repository. Your account with that platform, its availability and its storage limits are governed by that platform’s terms and are your responsibility.
  2. 02Synced content is encrypted with AES-256 before it leaves the device, using a key derived locally from your Sync Password. The Sync Password cannot be recovered — forgetting it means nobody can decrypt the remote snapshot, including us.
  3. 03Our servers never handle synced data, so we cannot recover, retrieve or decrypt anything in your repository. The local rollback point is your last line of defence.
06 · ACCEPTABLE USE

Acceptable use.

  1. 01CloverTerm is a high-privilege operations tool. Every command you run is your responsibility, including what it does to your servers and data. Safe Paste, host-key confirmation and diagnostics are aids, not guarantees.
  2. 02Connect only to hosts you own or are explicitly authorised to manage. Do not use this tool for unauthorised access, scanning or attacks.
  3. 03Do not post host addresses, keys, other people’s private information or unlawful content in the feedback community. We may remove content or suspend accounts that do.
  4. 04Do not redistribute, crack or strip licence checks from the client for profit.
07 · RELEASES

Releases and retirement.

The client checks a static release manifest on this site and offers "update / later". Upgrades are never forced. The one exception is a retired version: when a security vulnerability is disclosed in an exact version, that version is listed and clients running it are shown a full-screen "update now" on launch. Retirement is used for disclosed security vulnerabilities and nothing else. A manifest we cannot reach never counts as retirement.

Betas prove new features out and may contain defects. Do not depend on a beta in production, and please report problems in the feedback community.

08 · INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Intellectual property.

CloverTerm is not open source; its trademarks, branding and code are ours. These terms grant you a limited, non-transferable licence to use it, not a sale of ownership. Third-party open-source components are licensed under their own terms — the list is at third-party licences.

What you post in the feedback community remains yours; you grant us the rights needed to display and operate it. The host data and files you manage through CloverTerm are entirely yours.

09 · DISCLAIMER & LIABILITY

Disclaimer and limitation of liability.

The software is provided as is. We do not warrant that it is error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for your particular situation. Keep backups of anything important — the sync snapshot is in your repository and the rollback point is on your device; those two are your own safety net.

  1. 01Losses arising from operations, configuration changes or commands you perform are yours to bear.
  2. 02We are not liable for sync interruption or data loss caused by a code-hosting platform (GitHub, Gitee) failing or changing its policies.
  3. 03To the maximum extent permitted by law we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages; our aggregate liability is capped at what you actually paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which is zero if you have paid nothing.
  4. 04These limits do not apply where the law does not permit them, such as personal injury caused by wilful misconduct or gross negligence.
10 · CHANGES & CONTACT

Changes and contact.

If these terms change materially we will update the date on this page and note it in the changelog; continuing to use the service means accepting the updated terms. If you disagree, stop using it and delete your account.

Questions about these terms are welcome in the feedback community.
